What is a good DJ?
A good DJ...
-
Reads the crowd, and interacts with the dance floor. Considers the mood, genre, demographics when selecting the right music. This requires skill, experience and versitility
-
Plays what your guests want to hear. When the time is right, get them dancing and keep them dancing.
-
Does more than press play. Each song should be selected and MIXED indivudualy based on the moment.
-
Should be courteous, social, and friendly throughout the night.
-
Is the first to arrive, and the last to leave.
About Me
My name is Ryan McNamee AKA The “Camaican Sensation” and I began this musical journey in May of 1996. That was my first DJ gig and I have been doing it ever since.
While I grew up in Buffalo, NY, I am originally from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In September of 2003, I returned to Canada to obtain a degree in music production, audio engineering, and live sound.
When I returned to Buffalo in 2006, I was a well rounded audio engineer with over a decade of DJing experience. I had DJ'd everything from house parties, to bars, clubs, concerts, birthdays, you name it.
Whether the audience was 20 people or 2,000, I always enjoyed it.
Through my twenties, I began to develop a general dislike for wedding DJ's. Sure, sometimes it was my ego talking, but not always.
Sometimes they would play songs back to back from a predetermined playlist, without out blending, or reading the audience. At least a jukebox takes requests, these guys are just a human iPod. Then I began to notice how often bad music is covered up by, literally, smoke and mirrors. Some wedding DJ's had these huge lighting/fog machines, and the music was awful.
Lastly, some DJ's (the worst) shut down at the end of thier shift, no matter how good the party. Sure, they were only paid to play until a certain time, but maybe dinner was late and the dancing was pushed back. Maybe the party was late getting started. Nothing kills a party like silence.
One day, my friend Emily asked me to DJ her wedding. While I had DJ'd so many events in the past, I had never done a wedding and I was nervous about saying yes. When I thought about what kind of goof ball she might hire if I declined, I realized this was no different than any other event, and I knew just what Emily wanted.
So I did it, and I knocked it out of the park. It felt wonderful to make such an impact on the most important day of someone's life. I loved it, the well dressed guests, the families coming together, the love in the air, and the giant pile of womens shoes on the side of the dance floor.
It was amazing. From that point on I thought to myself, I could really get use to this.

My Services
I provide music for your event. You do not need to rent equipment or set anything up. All I need from you is a table and a power outlet.
How it works
Weddings
I work with you to customize your wedding. We breakdown the evening musically into cocktails, dinner, and dance.
We discuss music, the mood, the vibe you are looking for for each category.
We will also cover the must plays and don't plays, and special songs. (Intro, first dance, last song, etc.)
After one or two short meetings, you can check music off your list, and you have one less thing to worry about!
Not weddings
I offer the same services as above, but the events are typically less detailed. This includes parties, birthdays, fundraisers, anniversaries.
We talk about the nature of your event, what music you would like to hear, and go from there
